Question:
We are trying to find an online environment for collaboration for the teachers. We would like a space for teachers to share activity ideas, websites, resources etc. they find that are aligned with the CCR standards. We also want to post our unpacking charts and resource alignment charts.
I am the IHPDS. We have been looking at Wiki spaces, but it has limitations.
I am wondering if you could recommend some free sites that I could look at to see if I can find something that meets our program's needs better.
I would like a resource that I can tailor for better organization (folders and subfolders).
Thanks!
Answer:
Many different online environments can be used for sharing resources. In fact, there are so many that it can sometimes be overwhelming to try to find the right one to meet your needs. I would suggest you consider the following when picking a technology to use:
Here are a couple of different collaborative tools that other programs are using for their College and Career Readiness Standards work. I’d be happy to talk with you further to help you find the one that best meets you and your teachers’ needs.
Dropbox – online file sharing, can create folders and subfolders
Google Docs/Drive – online file sharing, multiple people can edit the same document
Wiggio – an online collaborate space that includes file sharing, online discussion boards, and a shared calendar

- People – Who are the people that will be using the site? What are they familiar with already? What is their comfort level with technology?
- Objectives – What do you want the site to be able to do? Is it a place where people can download information? Upload information? Have online chats?
- Strategy – How will you introduce this tool to your participants? What support will they need to get started? How will you support them as they continue to use the technology?
